Grote brand bij Lexion in Westzaan

WESTZAAN - Donderdagochtend omstreeks twee uur heeft er een grote brand gewoed bij uitgaansgelegenheid annex zalenverhuur Lexion. Een aantal zalen van het complex aan de Overtoom in Westzaan zijn in de as gelegd.

De brandweer werd vroegtijdig gealarmeerd door de automatische brandmeldinstallatie. Toen de eerste auto ter plaatse kwam bleek er daadwerkelijk brand te zijn.

Er werden meerdere vuurhaarden aangetroffen en mogelijk waren er nog mensen in de aangelegen woning aanwezig. Zodoende sprak de brandweer van een 'zeer grote brand', waarop drie extra voertuigen gealarmeerd werden.
Met behulp van blusschuim werd de eerste blussing gedaan terwijl drie andere tankautospuiten uit Zaandam ter plaatse kwamen. Om water op de moeilijk bereikbare locatie te krijgen, werd er een groot watertransport aangevraagd, welke water uit de polder oppompte.

Na ongeveer een uur kon het sein 'brand meester' worden gegeven en werd het pand geventileerd. De politie zal uitgebreid sporenonderzoek verrichten om vast te stellen of er sprake is van brandstichting.

In september 2001 was er ook een grote brand bij Lexion, toen brandde de uitgaansgelegenheid vrijwel tot de grond toe af.
